Pryor not ready to commit

By: Tim Scott

The nations #1 High School quarterback recruit Terrelle Pryor reportedly will not be committing to a University on the biggest College football signing day. Pryor has narrowed down his list of candidates to Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State. The 6-6, 227 pound Pryor has said its to tough decide at this time between these schools.

I would love to see Pryor in the Maze and Blue since my heart is always cheering for my team in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In all honesty, I actually think Penn State would be the best fit for Pryor. Anthony Morelli is gone so Pryor could step in immediately and play, unlike at OSU where he would behind Tod Boeckman. Pryor most likely would get immediate playing time at Michigan, but he would take on the risk of coming into a big changing environment with an offensive system and offensive personnel whom may not be equipt to have the spread moving at 100% at the start of the season.

Out of the three schools, Penn States offense has shown itself to be more adapt to its players that step in at quarterback. For example, the Penn State offense took a Michael Robinson and adjusted their offense to more of a spread scheme and Robinson quickly became one of the most productive offensive players in the Big Ten. After Robinson leaves they bring in Anthony Morelli and move the offense from less of a spread scheme to a more traditional pro style to fit Morelli’s abilities. Penn State has been known for their ground attack and this will definitely allow Pryor to get more time to focus on his passing by taking pressure off of him to scramble and run for yards.

Choosing Penn State will also greatly reduce the amount of pressure that will be put on his shoulders to win immediately. Playing at an Ohio State or a Michigan, their fans and the media expect those two schools to win the Big Ten every single year. The pressure that Pryor would receive under those conditions could be to much for a young player and even inhibit his ability to become the best player possible. Penn State isn’t expected to win the Big Ten every year, so if Pryor takes the Nittany Lions to the forefront of the conference, he’s a hero. If Penn State has a couple of average years with Pryor at quarterback, no big deal.

No matter which school Terrelle Pryor chooses, I'm pretty sure he'll put up big numbers and take that team to the next level. It’s a good sign to see at times when a player doesn’t give into the pressure of National Signing Day and commit to early without having much confidence. To take the time and make a mature decision says a lot about the character of Pryor and the school that signs Terrelle Pryor will not only be getting a great athlete but a great student and person.
