Patriots Super Bowl Again??

By: John Turvik

This game was a good one to watch, despite having to watch the Patriots win yet again. Is anyone else besides me sick of this team yet? I mean why can’t someone just beat them, they are too cocky and to arrogant. Well through part of this game I thought today was going to be that day. I would have enjoyed it so much, especially from trash talking Phillip Rivers. But despite how hard Rivers played and how tough the San Diego defense was forcing Tom Brady to throw 3 interceptions, it just was not going to happen.

San Diego’s biggest problem was being able to convert once they entered the Red Zone. The Patriots defense was just too tough once the Chargers crossed that twenty yard line, forcing San Diego to settle for field goals. If San Diego was able to turn half of their Red Zone attempts this game would have had a much different story. Of course who knew that Tom Brady would throw 3 interceptions, and the Chargers would not be able to take advantage of this. Not taking advantage of turnovers in the playoffs will cost any team the victory

Even though everyone knew that injuries would be a big problem in this game for the Chargers, I just have to mention how well they tried. Without LT they were able to still move the ball on the ground, but I for one have to think they would have been more successful with LT carrying the ball. Nothing against Michael Turner, who ran the ball hard, breaking multiple tackles each time, its just LT would have gotten more yards and made the Patriots defense concentrate more on the run. Gates was also showing some signs of his injury, by not being open as often as he has been in the past. Philip Rivers was also affected by his injury, not being able to throw hard and accurate passes throughout the game. One pass comes to mind when I think of River’s injury and that is the deep ball with the wind behind him where he came up ten yards short and the ball was intercepted. Even though the Patriots didn’t capitalize on the pick, it just showed that the Chargers could not go deep, which brought the Patriots secondary closer to the line of scrimmage.

You may have noticed that this article has not bee on how well the Patriots played, and this has been done on purpose. I respect what the Chargers have done, and all year long I have been forced to talk about how good the Patriots are. I now refuse to do that, and will make the statement that this game was not won by the Patriots, but lost by the Chargers. From a gamblers point of view, thank you Philip Rivers, your tough attitude led your team to cover the spread and put more cash into my pocket. This was an easy call from the beginning, because the Patriots have been slacking on their huge victories and the San Diego defense was too strong to be beaten that badly. I guess I have to watch yet another Patriots Super Bowl, its kind of getting old. So for once can we please see the NFC team win?
